Bible Study for January 31, 2010

Listen Up Y’all: Jeremiah 1:4-10

Opening Salvo
Have you ever heard your parents, your pastor, your teacher and other people tell you that you are too young to do this too young to do that?
Are there any things at home, at school, and in the church that you think are a bit too difficult to do?

What Was That All About

The passage, Jeremiah 1:4-10 talks about the way that God calls his prophets. We read God saying to Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Imagine that!

What if God told you the same thing? How would that change your life?

God knows our inmost being. As creatures of God, he watched how we are formed. The gospel even says that God knows the number of hair on our head.

We are created for a purpose. You might have heard about Rick Warren’s Purpose-driven life. Just like Jeremiah, God wants us to fulfill the plans that he has for us.

Age doesn’t matter. Jeremiah argued with God saying that he is too young for the job God was calling him to do. God assured Jeremiah that He will be with him as long as he is obedient.

God’s assurance was clear: Go to everyone I command you to. We have to take that step of obedience for the will of God. Sure it will not be easy and there will be difficulties. Yet God said “Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will rescue you.”

If we take that step of obedience, God will give us the vision and the strength to do what he wants us to do.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

What do you think are God’s plans for your life? What are you doing now to fulfill that plan?
What are the obstacles that will prevent you from reaching those plans?

Roll Out!

Watch the video of Ryan Hreljac’s story and how he raised money for water in Africa even if he was just seven years old.
How can you as a young person create an impact in the world you are living?

Read about Ryan Hreljac’s story by going to his official website.
