Along with the growing clamor for change and in line with the church’s call for clean and honest elections, the United Methodist Youth Fellowship of Philippines Annual Conference (PAC-UMYF) launched their own moral force movement dubbed Moral Force Youth. The launch, with the theme “Kabataan Anong Say Mo? Tayo ang Pagbabago”, was held at Pandacan United Methodist Church on 29 November 2009.
The activity was attended by young people from the two districts of PAC: Southwest Metro Manila District (SWMMD) and Northwest Metro Manila District (NWMMD). Cong. Raymond “Mong” Palatino of the Kabataan Partylist was the guest speaker. During his speech, the young legislator delved deeper into the vital role of young people in society today, especially in the upcoming 2010 Elections. He said that the youth comprise 40% of the voting population and serve as a major force in selecting government officials. He also emphasized that they have the technological know-how, especially on the Automated Election System (AES), and therefore must act with vigilance.
Rev. Lizette G. Tapia-Raquel, a professor from Union Theological Seminary (UTS) and Youth Coordinator of PAC-UMYF, gave the Biblico-Theological Reflection. Mr. Ismael T. Fisco Jr. gave a solidarity message from the National UMYFP while Rev. Johann M. Osias oriented the youth on the MEA Moral Force Movement, challenging them. The Matthew 5:16 Band of the NWMMD led the praise and worship, with Ptr. Dexter Ceballos as worship leader.
The event served as a follow-up activity of the Jesus and Me Philippines Annual Conference (JAMPAC) 2009 in cooperation with the MEA Moral Force Movement. Related activities were also set to get the young people of the church more involved in transforming society.
