Hundreds of young people gathered together to worship God during our district’s most-awaited Christmas Institute. It was held at Union Theological Seminary in Dasmarinas, Cavite. As a second-timer, I was eager and excited for the things that would happen in my five-day stay. With the theme “Siya Mismo”, Ptr. Cedillo expounded on Acts 17:27-28: “God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him …

It’s Party Time

by Erwin dela Rosa
Christmas time is party time.
As in previous years, I have been to one party after another. The office’s, the tennis club’s, other organization and association parties – name it. Almost everyone organizes a party one way or another. There are the usual gifts, plenteous food, parlor games, dancing, singing and booze for the drinkers. The atmosphere is filled with goodwill, merriment, cheer, fun and camaraderie.
I enjoyed the party prepared by my advisory class in the college where I teach. It was my first time to party with …

My hometown of Taytay, Rizal rests at the foothills of Antipolo. Geographically, this town is a basin that drinks in all the flood waters of neighboring towns. Houses along areas with the most flooding are built 4-6 feet higher than the streets making them look like mini castles standing on very stable foundations. Its residents ever so ready for the tide to come. After heavy rains, our streets will definitely be submerged in water making these houses look like they’re floating. Flooding in my town has been a …

First Filipino Youth Ministry Forum on Nov 26, 2009

Most workers with youth and young adults in the Philippines tend to approach their job via trial and error. There is a lack of training for youth workers. As such, they tend to rely on intuition in handling their own youth ministry. This is further complicated by the lack of formal training in youth ministry in Bible Schools and the Seminary. Unlike in the United States, most churches do not have youth pastors. As such, youth work usually falls on the shoulders of the church deaconesses and young pastors.
The goals …

Dear Leaders,
I am declaring Oct 24, 2009 as National UMYAF Outreach Relief Operations Day. This declaration mandates all UMYAF leaders of each Local, District and Annual Conference to plan, strategize and conduct any relief efforts as you are able, to victims of previous calamities.
Several options are suggested such as:
Partnering with neighboring AC’s who was/were hardly-hit by the calamities
Partnering with a chosen AC or District even in far distances.
Conducting a relief activity on October 24 or the soonest time as you are able
It is also suggested that the following will be …

Tangos UMC finds comfort, plans reconstruction the Sunday after

by Erize Linaban, Tangos UMC
August 17, 2009
In the days immediately preceding, we tried to comfort each other but words of Isaiah consoled us on a Sunday –
Less than a week after a tragic fire burned down the main sanctuary of Tangos UMC, worshippers found solace from the reading in Isaiah 43, biblical passage of the sermon of SWMMD Superintendent Rev. Johann Osias during the Divine Service. Rev. Osias emphasized that the people during prophet Isaiah’s time found their temple destroyed, forced to leave their land, and start a new life …
