Leaders are Getting Harder to Find

by Danny A. Hernaez
Greetings!
I visited with a friend over dinner the other night. He is an attorney. A really good one. He works for a prestigious firm and does some of their most important work for its biggest clients. He was talking about leadership. “Law schools are producing some sharp graduates these days and sending them our way,” he said. “As you can imagine, we get lots of applications from the best and brightest. I don’t think it would ever be the case that we worry about one of our …

There is Time

by Danny A. Hernaez
Greetings!
Because of several deadlines I have set for myself I am finding myself feeling rushed, a bit overwhelmed by all that has to be done, pressured, even talking to myself. One of the things I could be heard saying is, “There is not enough time to get everything done that needs to be done.” I have found myself running from place to place, task to task, and hour to hour trying my best to get everything done on my “to do” list before the day is done. …

Man Does not Live on Bread Alone

by Danny A. Hernaez

Greetings!
“‘… Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4)
Is it really that important to have a quiet time with the Lord everyday? I mean the Lord knows how busy my life is, so if I just toss up a few prayers and listen to a Christian song on the radio while rushing into my day, that should suffice. Right? It’s easy to let the busyness of life crowd out time for prayer, Bible reading, and …

Do not Forget

by Danny A. Hernaez
Greetings!
The key to wisdom is locked up in your memory. This living wisdom, not your achievements or net worth, becomes your legacy – your gift to the next generation. These collected memories make you a living testimony, or a dying breed. Whether you realize it or not, our memories are sacred things, fingerprints of God. From the beginning, God has placed them in our hearts for a purpose – to keep us wise.
Before God’s people entered the Promised Land, Moses spoke repeatedly about memories. “… be careful, …

Walking with God, April 12-18, 2010

By Rev. Bing Canlas
Theme: Walking with God
I. Opening Prayer
O Lord, your wondrous birth means nothing unless we are born again, your death and sacrifice mean nothing unless we die to sin, your resurrection means nothing if you be risen alone. Raise and exalt us, O Savior, both now to the estate of grace and hereafter to the state of glory; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Death

by Erwin dela Rosa

“And unto God the Lord belong the issues of death.”
This is the gist of John Donne’s Death’s Duel, a sermon he delivered himself, a member of the clergy, a lawyer, and a writer/poet during England’s Jacobean Period. As if by fate, John Donne died a few weeks after delivering this sermon.
Death’s Duel is inspired and based on the reality that each human will (at some point in time) encounter and be confronted by death. It is a metaphysical view of human’s inevitable fate – death. John Donne …

Stop Judging by Mere Appearances

by Danny A. Hernaez

Greetings!
One of the concerns Jesus expressed during His earthly ministry involved in seeing and hearing. He spoke on more than one occasion about having ears to hear and hearing correctly and about overcoming our spiritual blindness. In one particularly heated discussion on the correct understanding of who He was, He spoke these words: “Now if a child can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing the whole man on the Sabbath? …

God of life, through Jesus Christ you have bestowed upon the world the light of life. Afterlife

by Erwin dela Rosa
While I was driving to school a couple of Monday mornings ago, I pondered: “Is there life after death?” Or, “Is there an afterlife?”
I thought such because I had been assigned to give the reflection during the wake that we were going to have in the afternoon. It was for the bereaved family of our former vice president for academic affairs.
Dr. Benigno F. Castro of Baluyot, Bautista, Pangasinan passed away on February 11, 2010 – just a day before his sixty-sixth birthday. He was a …

Greetings!
At the end of the first century, the town of Laodicea was a thriving commercial center. It was a wealthy city, one of the few towns to refuse government aid after a devastating earthquake in the region. Clothing manufactured in Laodicea was sold throughout the Roman empire, especially garments made of beautiful black wool. Situated at the juncture of three trade routes, the city was ideally located for doing business. In addition, there was a world-famous medical school in Laodicea, famous for the treatment of optical diseases. …

Treasure and Nurture the Gift

by Erwin dela Rosa

“Every child is a gift from God.”
I will never forget this Scripture lesson. Especially when I eat in food shops in highly urbanized areas.
A few months ago, I was asked to be a godfather to a son of a co-faculty member. It’s my nth time to be a godparent.
The baptism was held in a solitary Mt. Carmel chapel in Carmen, Rosales. The reception was held in McDonald’s Carmen. I enjoyed it. It was fun.
While we were inside partying, just outside the window were children begging on the …
